BETTY'S RV PARK IS QUITE A FAVORITE PLACE FOR LOTS OF ESCAPEE'S. OUR BOOMER GROUP OF TEN BOOKED FOR THIS YEAR'S MARDI GRAS SEASON TWO YEARS AGO. BETTY IS THE OWNER AND HOSTESS WHO MAKES US ALL FEEL LIKE WELCOME GUESTS AT HER HOME. SHE'S GRACIOUS, FUN AND FUNNY. WE ALL HAVE A GREAT TIME ON THE PATIO AT HAPPY HOUR GETTING TO KNOW PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY. SHE PUTS OUT A PLANNED ACTIVITIES LIST, MAKES SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS, TOURS, SPEAKERS, BUS TRIPS, BOAT TRIPS ETC.
.SUIRE'S (IN KAPLAN) IS ONE OF OUR FAVORITE PLACES FOR SHRIMP POBOYS, IT'S A MUST DO EVERY TIME WE COME STAY IN ABBEVILLE. WE HAVE BROUGHT NEW BOOMERS, CHERYL AND BILL ALONG WITH MICK AND ANN TO INDULGE IN MORE GLUTENOUS BEHAVIOUR

Touring the South

Pensacola FL---We had the best time at the Naval Aviation Museum. We took a tour which was given by a Veteran Pilot of the Vietnam war. With his insight and knowledge of the planes plus stories about some of our heroic pilots made this tour just stand out as one of our favorites. We definitely recommend this museum to all, but take the tour!
We are now staying a few days a Rainbow Park which for all that are not RV'ers this is an Escapee Park(our club) It is a very nice park with nice large grassed spaces. It's conveniently located near the Gulf, Foley and Fairhope in Alabama. We have been here before but GEE somehow missed the famous Lamert's Cafe. So of course we had to correct this omission. So we took our big appetite to this fun establishment. And what fun it was!! Along with your entree you get the Pass Arounds, black eyed peas, fried potatoes and onions, fried okra, macaroni and tomatoes plus YES ROLLS(see sign)they throw to you!!!!! Then you can slaver it with the ton of butter on your table or cover it in apple butter or sorghum. Oh my all our clothes are shrinking.
This near picture was my lunch and oh yeah it went home with me. Jim ordered something we have never heard of: Hog Jowls, for all the rest of you who don't know, it's like a very thick bacon. It was a plate full. We still have some in the freezer. The fun and calories just keep on going(on)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grayton Beach Fl

As we were traveling along Hwy 30A we stopped at Grayton Beach State Park. Took down our bikes to enjoy a nice bike trail that parallels the road. Seaside is a picture perfect town to explore by bike going in and out of the the small bricked streets enjoying the wonderful architecture of the homes. The guide book states the movie Truman was filmed here.

Panama City Fl

Some of the fun things to stop and see along the way. Taking the secondary roads are the only way to see what this country has to offer. Apalachicola turned out to be a delightful stop on the way along Hwy 98 in the Panhandle of Fl. with some interesting unusual shops.

Parksdale Farms

This is what happens to retired people with too much time on their hands. We couldn't resist being silly. This fruit stand is in Plant City, the strawberry capital of FL. It is known for it's Strawberry Shortcake. All we can say is yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would also like to pass along to all our fellow travelers that this fruit stand, Parksdale Farms, has the most reasonable prices that we have found to date in FL. They are well stocked in all vegies and fruits and a very well decorated eating area.

Dunedin

We had another terrific bike ride along the Pinellas Trail. This is a 47 mile trail that extends from Tarpon Springs to St. Petersburg. No we did not do all that! We did about a 20 mile ride. Started from the Elks in Dunedin rode to Walls Spring County Park. A very nice park that started out as a private springs before being donated to the county. We then rode back and over the causeway, which is beautiful, to Honeymoon Bay State Park. It was a warm day, we had packed lunch, towels, bathing suits and books. So laid on the beach for a few hours before riding home.
