Fred's Lounge 420 6th St in Mamou LA. Is a world famous lounge featuring a unique radio program of live Cajun Music and a broadcast on KVPI(1050). It is open Only on Saturdays from 8:00am till 2:00pm. We all had a great time dancing, some of us even had a beer before noon. Pictured above with Jim is Ms Fred, 92 yrs young, she dances, sings, and carries her own flask on her hip. She and her husband started the bar in 1946.



We also went to Savoy's on the same day. Here they have a Cajun Jam Session from 9:00am till 12:00pm

Mardi Gras Day

This is the big finale. The Mardi Gras Day! We got up early, packed our lunches, our gear(umbrellas, jackets, hats, water, ) for whatever the weather might bring us. Luckily it was a nice day. Lafayette has three parades almost back to back. I have to say I knew we would have fun here but it has exceeded my expectations!

We all went to a farm in Church Point, this was by invitation only. Here we saw the actual Courir(or Run) where the revelers come onto the property, after getting permission from the owner, dance, party and chase the chickens that the farmer donates for their gumbo.

Touchet's Bar

Jim not only jammed with the band but the Nun danced he's feet off and she's 82 years old! Touchet's Bar has a Cajun jam session with a free meal every other Saturday.

A great way to start the day. Off to a Cajun breakfast and dancing to Zydeco music at the Cafe des Amis in Breaux Bridge.
After breakfast we were off to a King Cake Party and Dance at Gerry Spanger's (a private resident). This is an open party....all are welcome. We saw alot of the same people who were at the resturant. Following this we were off Touchet's Bar!

BETTY'S RV PARK IS QUITE A FAVORITE PLACE FOR LOTS OF ESCAPEE'S. OUR BOOMER GROUP OF TEN BOOKED FOR THIS YEAR'S MARDI GRAS SEASON TWO YEARS AGO. BETTY IS THE OWNER AND HOSTESS WHO MAKES US ALL FEEL LIKE WELCOME GUESTS AT HER HOME. SHE'S GRACIOUS, FUN AND FUNNY. WE ALL HAVE A GREAT TIME ON THE PATIO AT HAPPY HOUR GETTING TO KNOW PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY. SHE PUTS OUT A PLANNED ACTIVITIES LIST, MAKES SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS, TOURS, SPEAKERS, BUS TRIPS, BOAT TRIPS ETC.
.SUIRE'S (IN KAPLAN) IS ONE OF OUR FAVORITE PLACES FOR SHRIMP POBOYS, IT'S A MUST DO EVERY TIME WE COME STAY IN ABBEVILLE. WE HAVE BROUGHT NEW BOOMERS, CHERYL AND BILL ALONG WITH MICK AND ANN TO INDULGE IN MORE GLUTENOUS BEHAVIOUR

Touring the South

Pensacola FL---We had the best time at the Naval Aviation Museum. We took a tour which was given by a Veteran Pilot of the Vietnam war. With his insight and knowledge of the planes plus stories about some of our heroic pilots made this tour just stand out as one of our favorites. We definitely recommend this museum to all, but take the tour!
We are now staying a few days a Rainbow Park which for all that are not RV'ers this is an Escapee Park(our club) It is a very nice park with nice large grassed spaces. It's conveniently located near the Gulf, Foley and Fairhope in Alabama. We have been here before but GEE somehow missed the famous Lamert's Cafe. So of course we had to correct this omission. So we took our big appetite to this fun establishment. And what fun it was!! Along with your entree you get the Pass Arounds, black eyed peas, fried potatoes and onions, fried okra, macaroni and tomatoes plus YES ROLLS(see sign)they throw to you!!!!! Then you can slaver it with the ton of butter on your table or cover it in apple butter or sorghum. Oh my all our clothes are shrinking.
This near picture was my lunch and oh yeah it went home with me. Jim ordered something we have never heard of: Hog Jowls, for all the rest of you who don't know, it's like a very thick bacon. It was a plate full. We still have some in the freezer. The fun and calories just keep on going(on)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
