First stop of the day. Fort Beausejour an earthen reinforced fort strategically shaped like a star
overlooking the Bay of Fundy. It was built by the French in 1751, but fell to the British in 1755
and renamed Fort Cumberland. This fort was later used as one of the deportation centers of
the Acadian people. It was abandoned in 1835 & declared a historical site in 1926.
MONUMENT LEFEBVRE---It was the first French-language higher education institution in Atlantic Canada.
This building is now a museum that spans the history of the Acadian people from their first arriving to this area,
their deportation to their accomplishments of today. To begin we viewed a 40 minute video then were given
our own guided tour by a delightful young man named Justin(of Acadian descent).
Moncton was the next stop for a bike ride along the river so we could see the Tidal Bore a natural phenomenon
caused by the surging Bay of Fundy tides(the Highest in the World)
The Tidal-Bore activity occurs twice daily. We were given the time by in visitor center, we were there but
never saw a Tidal Bore! Oh well had a nice bike ride.
Followed this up with some shopping and a drive down the coast.
HOPEWELL ROCKS-ON THE BAY OF FUNDY NEW BRUNSWICK-The Bay of Fundy has the highest tides in the World. Forty Feet!
You can walk among these rock formations 3 hours before and 3 hours after low tide. Spectacular! We have about 50 more
pictures I’d love to post. We just couldn’t stop snapping.
ALMA-A small town right before you enter Fundy National Park. See the difference in the tide in just a few hours.
It was just remarkable seeing all the boats sitting on the rivers bottom.
FUNDY NATIONAL PARK NEW BRUNSWICK-Something for everyone. Beaches, pool, tennis, golf, hikes, camping, interpretive programs.
We did a few very short hikes. We both did one to the falls and Jim one to the beach. Ended our day at the picnic area having our
dinner in the park across the river from Alma watching the tide come in.
