Campsite on Lake Barkley near Land between the Lakes TN & KY

Overlook at South Fork River in the Big South Fork Recreation Area. This river begins in Tennessee, flows north through a spectacular 600 foot deep gorge, enters KY and empties into the Cumberland River.

Very interesting outdoor Museum of the Blue Heron Mining Community in Big South Fork Nat’l River & Recreation Area. Tells the 25 year coal-mining story with exhibits, structures, and audio programs.

Fort Donelson TN, Feb. 1862 was the North’s first major victory of the Civil War, opening the way into the very heartland of the Confederacy. Just a month before, the Confederates had seemed invincible.

Ahhh! Jim cooling off in the river. After weather not going much into the 80’s with thundershowers 1-2 times a week for most of Aug. on the East coast, summer has finally arrived. With temps back into the 90’s this river at our COE park in the Mark Twain Nat’l Forest looked too good not to enjoy. Name of cg-Float Camp

New best Missouri friends Linda & Dave. Jim met this nice couple playing pickleball. They invited us to stay on their property for the weekend so Jim could again play on Monday so we said OK . Wow they were such great hosts. Took us around to see some sights, fed us, and even scored us some free tickets from their neighbor (who was in the show)at the Country Jubilee. Their home is just fantastic, what a great couple, can’t thank them enough!

Stayed a few days as Jim found some pickleball to play. We did thoroughly enjoy The Cowtown Museum even though it was 94 degrees! Almost all the buildings were air conditioned! Walked the downtown Old Town(nothing really there). Had lunch at the Brewery. Walked their river trail which is very nice. Missed out on biking next morning as it was too windy. The Arkansas river runs through Wichita. Nicely developed with a path and parks.

Dodge City KS—Fancy that another western town Museum. Oh well. Liked the Boot Hill Museum and enjoyed the towns Trolley ride tour. Oh did I mention the aroma of the many, many cattle feed lots. Ahhh not to be missed.
