Council Grove KANSAS

Last night at the campground our neighbor told us Council Grove was a great little historical town. We had to go right through it so we drove the driving tour, then parked to walk around to look at some of the buildings. Darn it was Sunday though and everything but the restaurant was closed. The picture above is called the Old Bell dated 1863 they rang it to warn of Indian attacks.

This street was the Santa Fe Trail which is now Hwy 56, Main St in Council Grove

Farmer & Drovers Bank 1892 an example of eclectic architecture with brick and stone masonry, Romanesque arches & Bzyantine dome and minarets. Very well preserved.
