To see The Truman home you have to first go to the visitor center to purchase tickets. Yea! for the Golden Age Pass- free is always great. We are very glad we decided to see the house, not anything like what we thought. Interestingly they inherited the home from her family, good thing because they would never have been able to afford such a nice house. After leaving office all the income he had was a small military pension. Not until 1956 did he receive a
presidential pension of $25,000 a year(after Congress passed a bill)for retired Presidents.
Truman's home was very modest, coming through the depression they always continued to keep and use what they had. They didn't even replace buckling linoleum just tacked it down.
