L’ANSE AUX MEADOWS
At the most northern end of
the Northern Peninsula we went to the
Historic site of the first Viking Settlement
in North America. 1000AD
The sod huts were very sturdy and
they were able to winter over. The interpreters were excellent.

OFF HWY 432 GOING SOUTH TOWARDS RODDICKTON-Underground Salmon Pool & trail. Great trail through trees, brooks & river and the caves
Not only was it very scenic it also had two interesting Memorials. The first was the remains of a WWII plane crash,
they ran out of fuel and had to land. The three on board survived & were well taken care of by the towns
people. The second pictured above was a French Captain , we are unsure why he was buried alone on
this spot. But it was the trail head for a fantastic walk along the water to the coves entrance. It took
1 1/2 hrs.
